Grocery store retrofit to save $170K/yr. – a chain in Puerto
Rico will save $170,000 annually thanks to a lighting retrofit. “Redbird LED,
in partnership with Energy Integrated Solutions, replaced the grocery store’s
lighting with more than 1,000 LED T8 tube lights,” it
says here.
It plays in Peoria – Thomas Jefferson Primary School (Peoria,
Ill.), which suffered a fire in 11/08, is being rebuilt. More than 600 T12s
are being replaced, with the school said to be “the first school entirely lit

LED retrofit to save 60% – Lighting Science Group “is handling
the retrofit” at two CA Naval bases, according to EnvironmentalLeader.com.
Retrofit saves – use of “higher-efficiency light ballasts and
fluorescent lights” at the Lincoln County courthouse, via contractor ERM Electric,
will cost roughly $15K and save $62,000 annually, the Ruidoso News (N.M.)
reported.
Special effects – LEDs can do more than save energy, according
to Electronic
House. Special effects in which they are being used in a Florida home
include:
- “A pressure sensor installed underneath the carpet trips whenever the owners
get out of bed and signals LEDs fitted on the bottom of bed frame and within
a chair rail on the wall to activate.”
- “Colored LED lights embedded within an onyx bathtub foster relaxation. The
color of the lights can be controlled to suit the owners’ mood.”
- “LED lights installed within a cove ceiling simulate sunrise and sunset.”
- “Embedded into tiles, LEDs make the floor glow from beneath.”
Street lamp re-do – Menlo Park (isn’t that a kick in the head
for Edison?) is replacing “almost 500” city street lamps with LED bulbs, at
a cost of about $320K, the San Jose Mercury News reported
on 2/24 (this Menlo Park is in CA).
